Water Quality Monitoring

BBEMA is currently monitoring a number of streams within the Bedeque Bay Watershed.

Monthly Water Quality Monitoring:

Water quality parameters include: Dissolved Oxygen, pH, Nitrates, Coliform, Temperature, Conductivity and Total Dissolved Solids – as well as depth and flow.

  1. The Bradshaw River (coastal sub-watersheds) – 4 sites.
  2. The Wilmot – 7 sites
  3. The Dunk River – 12 sites

HOBO Data Loggers – continuous in stream monitoring:

BBEMA monitors 16 streams sites through remote deployment using HOBO Pendant loggers (miniature, waterproof, temperature and light intensity loggers) – May through to October

Canadian Aquatic Biomonitoring Network (CABIN):

The Canadian Aquatic Biomonitoring Network (CABIN) is an aquatic biological monitoring program for assessing the health of freshwater ecosystems in Canada.

CABIN is based on the network of networks approach that promotes inter-agency collaboration and data-sharing to achieve consistent and comparable reporting on freshwater quality and aquatic ecosystem conditions in Canada. The program is maintained by Environment Canada to support the collection, assessment, reporting and distribution of biological monitoring information.

BBEMA completes fall Canadian Aquatic Biomonitoring Network (CABIN) sampling on 6 stream sites:

  1. Dunk River – 3 sites
  2. Wilmot River – 2 sites
  3. Bradshaw River – 1 site
